CHALLENGE - EXPLOSIONS
In this project, we will create a photorealistic explosion simulations and a basic 3D scene to showcase it.
We will assume the role of a Junior VFX artist tasked with conducting Research and Development for a 5 to 10 second scene from an Action Film. Students must pitch an idea for a short film that the scene takes place in, to give context for the explosion. Students must find and replicate compositions and camera moves from an existing scene from a film to ensure quality and consistency.
OBJECTIVE
For this project I paired up with a classmate of mine because I knew that I wanted to make something cool and we divided it up into roles where I handled the more simulation intensive part of things like the building destruction and the explosions pretty much the houdini aspect of things while they helped with the key animation elements like the book and the post effects and final look if everything in nuke!
REFERENCE
Our main reference from this actually came from a 3D challenge hosted by the artist known as pwnisher on youtube called the chasm call and we had found a particular entry that we really thought lent itself to the vibe of the project.
Aside from this we made sure to reference actual movie explosions we were very specific in making sure we didn’t reference any real explosions mostly for our own ethical reasons
